INFO
DRAW CLUB
Draw Club is a relaxed, structured drawing session built around a carefully constructed still life.
We begin with simple warm-ups and drawing prompts designed to get you looking, making marks and trying things out. From there, there’s plenty of time to settle into longer drawings and follow what interests you.
There’s no right way to draw here. No experience is needed.
All materials are provided.
WHAT HAPPENS?
Each Draw Club lasts around 90 minutes.
We start together with a handful of short drawing exercises, before moving into longer periods of drawing from the still life.
The prompts give the session a little structure, but they’re there as a starting point rather than a set of rules. You can follow them closely, interpret them loosely, or take your drawing somewhere else entirely.
The aim is to give you enough direction to get started - and enough space to make the work your own.
THE STILL LIFE
At the centre of each session is a constructed still life made from objects, fabric, plants, colour and form.
Rather than treating the still life simply as something to copy, Draw Club approaches it more like a temporary installation: something to look around, crop, simplify, exaggerate and interpret.
The arrangements change over time, so each session offers something different to work from.
THE MATERIALS
Everything you need to draw is waiting for you.
Expect a changing selection of paper, pencils, coloured pencils, charcoal, soft pastels, oil pastels and other dry drawing materials.
You’re encouraged to experiment, switch materials and use things you might not normally reach for.
You’re also very welcome to bring your own sketchbook or favourite drawing tools.
DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DRAW?
No.
Draw Club is for people who draw all the time, people who haven’t drawn since school, and everyone in between.
It isn’t a technical drawing class and there’s no pressure to make a finished or “good” drawing.
Come to look closely, make marks, try something unfamiliar and spend some time drawing.
IS IT TAUGHT?
Draw Club sits somewhere between a workshop and an open drawing session.
The session is facilitated and there is a clear structure, with warm-ups, prompts and changes of pace along the way. But there isn’t a step-by-step demonstration or a single outcome everyone is expected to produce.
You’ll be supported in getting started, then given room to explore.
DO I HAVE TO SHARE MY DRAWING?
No.
There are no critiques and no expectation that you show your work to the group.
Your drawings can stay completely yours.
WHERE DOES DRAW CLUB HAPPEN?
Draw Club takes place in different spaces around London, with regular public sessions alongside occasional one-offs.
Each venue has its own atmosphere, but the format stays the same: a constructed still life, an abundant table of drawing materials and time set aside to draw.
Full venue details are included with each event listing.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Just yourself.
All drawing materials are included.
You may want to bring a drink where the venue allows it, and you’re welcome to bring your own drawing materials if there’s something you particularly enjoy using.
HOW DO I BOOK?
Public sessions are listed through Eventbrite.
Places are limited so that everyone has enough room to draw comfortably. Some sessions sell out, so booking ahead is recommended.
